NGOs in Navoi Region Will Be Implementing Social Projects to Combat Corruption

Director of the Anti-Corruption Agency Akmal Burkhanov has held a meeting with representatives of NGOs and public associations of Navoi Region as part of the study of the state of work to combat corruption in the region.

The meeting presented socially significant projects of NGOs - winners of the grant competition held by the Public Fund for the Support of Civil Society Institutions under the Oliy Majlis and its regional division, as well as the Anti-Corruption Agency together with international organizations. Currently, 288 million soums of grant funds have been allocated for the implementation of projects.

Projects will be focused on ensuring the effective implementation of the tasks and instructions given by the head of state at an expanded meeting of the National Anti-Corruption Council.

In particular, ‘Noila’ Center for Social Support, Legal Advocacy and Monitoring is promoting the initiative to create the ‘Navoi Experience’ aimed at eliminating the factors contributing to everyday corruption in the context of each district and industry.

‘Sogdiana’ Youth and Women Center plans to train 15 female activists from mahallas (communities) and settlements of Uchkuduk, Zarafshan and Nurata districts of the region as ‘publicity ambassadors’ on issues of anti-corruption legislation and women’s rights.

Social projects of ‘Kaknus’ Youth and Women Center and ‘Intilish va Taraqqiyot’ Public Association include important awareness-raising activities aimed at strengthening intolerance to corruption in the most remote areas of the region.

Following the meeting, Akmal Burkhanov gave recommendations and proposals for focusing projects on practical results, effective implementation of each task and goal, as well as rational use of grant funds.
